Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

Disclosure: I purchased this book with my own money. I have no connection with this book’s publisher or author in any way. No compensation was received for this review.

Ok, the third book in the Vampire Academy series is Shadow Kiss. In this book we start digging deeper into the relationship between Rose Hathaway & Dimitri Belikov. If you’ve read the first two books, you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, you really should grab a copy of the first two books and get to reading!

Lissa is experimenting with her magic again, which gives Rose that much more to worry about as well. Add to this being required to do her field testing guarding a Moroi that she doesn’t particularly care that much for in the best of times, and it makes for a very interesting book.

The book ended in a way that seriously surprised and saddened me, and I came to realize that this series is more about Rose than it is Lissa. While this isn’t a bad thing, I should have been able to guess that from the fact that all of the books so far have been written from Rose’s point of view. Somehow, I’d thought it was more of an evenly spread story. Guess not.

That does not, however, make this installment of the series any less compelling of a read. It had me hooked from the minute I started and I read the majority of the book in less than 24 hours, an astounding feat since at least 8 of those hours I was at work!

The fourth book, Blood Promise, doesn’t come out until August 2009, and I am seriously chomping at the bit for it to come out. It’s coming in hardback first, but honestly, I don’t think I can wait. I’ll buy the hardback just to be able to read it!
