Reading Level: Young Adult
Tamsin Greene comes from a long line of witches, and she was supposed to be one of the most Talented among them. But Tamsin’s magic never showed up. Now seventeen, Tamsin attends boarding school in Manhattan, far from her family. But when a handsome young professor mistakes her for her very Talented sister, Tamsin agrees to find a lost family heirloom for him. The search—and the stranger—will prove to be more sinister than they first appeared, ultimately sending Tamsin on a treasure hunt through time that will unlock the secret of her true identity, unearth the sins of her family, and unleash a power so vengeful that it could destroy them all. This is a spellbinding display of storytelling that will exhilarate, enthrall, and thoroughly enchant.
My thoughts:
First off, this book was absolutely amazing. My ARC was 292 pages long and I read it all in three hours. Three. Hours. That is unheard of for me to read that many pages per hour!
I read fast, but not THAT fast. LOL
Tamsin came across to me as exactly what I was and still am – someone who is different from the rest of her family. She doesn’t do what they want her to, she doesn’t have what they think she should have. But when it all comes down to crunch time, she is the one who will have to save the day. Tamsin, to me, was a very likeable character. Rowena on the other hand, don’t even get me started.
The book was fast paced from beginning to end and I have to say that I liked that. Too often books start out extremely slowly or start out fast and then slow down in the middle. This one was consistent throughout the book, which is a very good thing. The only thing that frustrated me was that the ending seems to call for a sequel, so I can only hope that Carolyn MacCullough plans on writing a sequel to this awesome book!
Buy the book. Trust me. You’ll want to read it again.
