Why Did They Leave?
A couple of the people in my training class at work used to work for Premier Bank Card. After hearing them talk about how great it was, I often wonder why they left. From what they described, they made more than they do at Alorica. They also got awesome bonuses, like TVs, Fossil watches, DVD players, gaming systems, and of course, monetary bonuses as well. So finally I got curious as to why they left and asked one of them.
She was fired – because she would wear regular socks in to work and then put her “dress-code-required nylon knee-highs” on at her desk. Ok, first off, it’s the Mid-West. It’s FREEZING outside from about October – March, generally speaking. Nylons are the kiss of death for women during that time period. I wouldn’t wear my nylons outside either! At least she was wearing them! Now, she said if you wore dress pants, knee-highs were fine, but if you wore a skirt, you had to have actual pantyhose. I can guarantee you, the person who made the dress code was a man. Why? Because most women despise pantyhose and would never write a dress code that included them.
So that was why she left. But the other guy, he just got tired of being cussed at for being a collections agent. Well, think about it. How would YOU like to be on the other end of that phone call? Most people are not ignoring the bill because they want to, they’re ignoring it because at that point in time, there is no way without giving up essentials such as rent, utilities, groceries, medications, etc they can make the payments.
This is why I am against credit cards. If you lose your job, they do not care. If you end up getting demoted due to company downsizing and have less paycheck and can’t afford everything, they do not care. All they care about is getting the money from you. Like I always point out to them when they call me – if I had the money, you’d have been paid off a long time ago. It should be pretty well obvious that the reason you haven’t been paid is because I do not have the money.
However my favorite are the calls I’m getting right now because the people they’re telling me I owe money to, I’ve NEVER heard of in my life, AND no less, these agencies will NOT send me a bill in the mail. I don’t have a checking account. I can’t make a payment over the phone. Like I’ve stated time and again – no PAPER bill, NO PAYMENT. End of story. Business is not conducted by phone. I will only make my agreements in writing – so I have something to bring to court if it comes down to it.
If you have a collections call, and you make an arrangement, ask them to send you the exact terms of the arrangement, as you made it, in writing and see what they say. If they say they cannot do that, or are unwilling to do so, you can bet they’re going to try to raise the amount you’re paying each month to them.
In any case, I didn’t mean to ramble on and on about collections – they just irk me because most of them don’t give a crap about circumstances, even when you can prove that you’re telling the truth.
