Plus Size Shopping

Why is it so hard to find decent clothing for plus sized women? Seriously? Why do plus sized women have to have such a hard time finding decent clothes? When I go shopping lately, I find plus sized clothes styled and cut exactly the way regular clothes are. Now I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but when you pick up a pair of breeches in plus size, they aren’t going to look as good on you as they do on the skinny minnie four racks away from you.

One of the things I find most difficult in that is dealing either 1) the cut of the clothing or 2) the fabric of the clothing. I’m not talking did they use polyester or cotton, I’m talking print, color, etc. There are some prints and colors that should never be seen on a plus sized woman. I will never, ever forget seeing a dress made of gold lame. My mom thought it was cute. It was a holiday dress. She wanted to get it for me. I promptly informed her that I would look like a cow in it. She made me try it on. I was right. She never doubted me again when I said something wouldn’t look good on me.

So why do clothing manufacturers think it’s ok not to make plus sized clothes? Why do stores think it’s ok not to carry it? If they think it’s going to cause people to lose weight, they’re wrong. All it’s doing is making them mad.

  • Neat post! Agree with your thoughts as well. What companies need are 'good listeners' to what their potential customers are looking for. It's kinda similar to those who won't show advertisements for contraceptives... thinking that the problem will fix itself. Thanks for your thoughts. :o)
