Saving Money

“Sorry I don’t have enough to buy weight loss pills.” That is what I told a coworker today. Now there is a reason I told the coworker this. You see, our particular office doesn’t have a “no soliciting” thing when it comes to employees. So if you sell Avon, Mary Kay, Amway, Home Interior, or any of the myriad weight loss products that are on the market, you can sell them at work. And really, I’m not interested in any of the stuff my coworkers are selling. But I dont’ want to be rude about it.

So I just tell them I don’t have enough money to buy what they’re selling. I’m not lying, and I’m not being rude. I’m being honest and also not hurting their feelings about not wanting what they’re trying to sell me. ) Truth be told, I’m cutting back in a lot of areas. I cancelled my Book of the Month Club 2 membership, I’m going to call and cancel my TrackPass membership, and I’m pushing my Netflix hold back for the umpteenth time. I’m sure pretty soon they’re just going to send me an email and say that I have to either let it reinstate or cancel it. LOL

So what are you doing to save money?

  • Yay for work solicitation! You know, back in the day I only remember Girl Scout cookies and the like being sold at work, lol.

Saving money is always important for us. We trimmed down our cable bill, because to be honest we don't really watch movies, so who cares about HBO and ShowTime? I also use coupons and good sales when doing grocery shopping, and while I do purchase lean meats, I buy them in bulk so that I get more for my money. And since I have a foodsaver, I can vacuum seal everything and let it sit in the freezer for up to a year. The other big thing we do is consolidate trips, and sometimes my mom and I go out together. I live in a rural area, with the nearest grocery store being 6 miles away, the nearest Target being 9 miles away, and the pet store being close to 15 miles away. It's definitely important for us to conserve on gas!
Oh, and speaking of gas, we use propane to heat our home. That crap is RIDICULOUSLY expensive, and our home is not that efficient. We put out $700 for propane in October of 2008, and then another $813 in February. We're now down to maybe 20%, but thankfully we're going into the summer, so I don't have to worry about another huge propane bill until the fall. Anyway, we conserve on our propane usage by keeping the thermostat set to 65. It gets chilly, but that's what blankets, layers of clothing and cuddling is for. ;)
