Ok, if you dropped by in the last oh, I don’t know, 24 hours or so, you might have noticed the sudden influx of “Tweet Archive” posts. Well, I set Twitter Tools to post to my blog once a day with my tweets for that day. Kind of a way to give me an idea of how much I actually tweet, what I’m saying when I tweet, things like that. I guess to help me become a better tweeter?? But yeesh! It posted six days worth of tweets all at once!
So I apologize to you now for those and all upcoming tweet posts on the blog. I’m just trying to get it figured out how I tweet.
And now for a small gripe. I keep seeing tweets on Twitter and clicking the links to read the articles that are being shilled and frankly, these articles are starting to irk me. These are articles on how to be a better blogger, build your traffic, etc. What bothers me is that they say things like “don’t have links to your social networks on your blog” and other things like that. Ok, I understand you want people to read your blog and to come back, but really, shouldn’t your blog be YOUR blog? I even saw one tip that said not to include posts about yourself, your family, your pets, etc. That’s fine if your blog subject is blogging (Basically Geeky), or technology, or any of the other myriad subjects, but if it’s a personal blog (Charity Lynn) then it SHOULD have stuff about you, your life, your family, your pets, etc on it.
Of course, I keep seeing people saying not to tweet about yourself. Hello? If my followers don’t want to know what I’m doing at the moment, they can unfollow me. I use Twitter to talk to other people (if they want to talk to me). I don’t use it just to spout off links to my posts or my Etsy shop and then get off Twitter. I like to engage people and have conversations if I can. Sometimes I talk to people and they don’t talk back. Ok, that’s their prerogative. Sometimes I talk to people and they do talk back. We have conversations. THAT is what Twitter is for. To be SOCIAL. Not to just say “oh, well, here’s a link to my new blog post/product/affiliate link” and get off line.
Ok, sorry. Had to rant there. It just irritates me – just because you make umpteen zillion dollars blogging (mostly from the ads on your blog) doesn’t mean that you know what everyone wants to read. Me? I LIKE reading about other people’s lives thank you very much! How about you? Do you think that the “experts” on blogging should tell you what you should and shouldn’t write about, or should they focus more on making your blog look nicer and easier to read than on what your content consists of?
