Blogging Subjects
I’ve seen people on forums literally asking what they should blog about. My question is always, “what do you mean, what should you blog about?” They usually answer that they don’t have any idea of what to blog about. Well, honestly, that’s up to the blogger.
If you live in North Carolina, and you spend a lot of time at the Outer Banks, you can blog about them. If you’re a tech junkie, you can blog about tech items or review gadgets. If you like to crochet, knit, make candles, make soap, make jewelry, etc, blog about that. You can also just blog about your life, your kids, your pets, your spouse, or whatever.
The only thing I have to say is try not to blog about your job too much, unless your job is blogging. I say this because some employers do search the internet for blogs that mention their companies, as well as sometimes you might have coworkers you don’t get along with that might go looking for your blogs. Either situation can turn very ugly, very quickly. People have been fired over blogging about their jobs, so a good idea is to just leave it alone.
That being said, the last thing you want to do is start a blog if you don’t have any clue of what to write. If you have nothing to say, no idea what to write about, etc, don’t start a blog until you do. There is nothing worse than finding a blog that looks promising only to find that the blogger only posted three posts before giving up on the blog, never to return. A friend of mine did that in 2007. She’s a fitness nut and she started a fitness blog. She had a couple of good reviews, a couple of low-fat recipes, and then boom, nothing. The blog is still up, but she hasn’t updated in almost two years. So make sure you have something to say, that you know what you want to say, and then start your blog. You’ll be glad you did.
