My Thoughts:

I am not really one to read memoirs. I usually find them to be filled with trivial, boring details that really do not keep my interest. However, I made an exception and I am so glad I did.

This book was funny – the things that happened to her (which at the time they happened you KNOW she didn’t find funny at all), the experiences she had, the friends she made – all of them made me laugh. Moving to a different country is hard enough, but when they do not speak a language you know and their customs are unlike anything you’ve ever had, it is even worse. This book perfectly captures what it is like for a girl with everything to go to a country where she has nothing.

From her arrival in Japan to the end of the book, Lisa’s quest to get along in her new surroundings will having you laughing. A definite must read. Even if you do not normally like memoirs, I highly recommend this one!
