Need Electronics?

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

I don’t suggest purchasing them from your local discount super center. There have been reports of boxes of rocks, inappropriate photos on memory sticks, and more coming from those places. It’s not a good sign when parents buy stuff for their kids and find naked women on memory sticks or boxes of rocks and newspaper instead of a game system. Reminds me a lot of what happened when Circuit City closed their doors. They put everything on clearance and wouldn’t let anyone inspect anything.

Some people got video games that looked like they’d been chewed by a shredder. Others bought TV sets that were shattered in the boxes. You know darn well that Circuit City had to have known they were selling this stuff broken like that. I just hope that other stores don’t take cues from them and start pulling stunts like that when they go out of business. Then again, I hope they also don’t allow liquidators to come in who will use the dirty practice of marking everything WAY up so that when they mark it down to normal selling price, they look like they’re on sale. Grrr. Not good!

Time to Upgrade?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Well, I’m thinking my iPod shuffle has about had it. I got BFL a brand new iPod shuffle as a late birthday present and hers charged up in no time at all. My orange shuffle that is 2 years old? Not so much. In fact, I ended up removing it from the charger so I could listen to it. I really don’t want to have to replace it, but I’m thinking that might just be what needs to happen. This time it’ll be purple, assuming of course, that I can actually get one in purple. LOL That will be in a couple months though, so I hope this one lasts until then at least. Right now, I’ve got a couple bills I need to get paid off before I can think about replacing my shuffle.

Another thing I think it’s time to upgrade, but Verizon says it isn’t, is my phone. I hate my phone with a passion. I really do. That phone sucks big time. Even BFL, who has the same model is chomping at the bit to get a new phone. *sigh* I can’t wait for May 2010. We’ll all upgrade our phones and be done with these pieces of crap. Samsung – your phones need work! Bleh!

Dieting Woes

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

I am thinking of starting another diet. I am not sure if I want to go with a website such as SparkPeople or eDiets, or if I want to try going it alone. By going it alone, I mean creating my own healthy eating regimen without having a menu planned for me. Of course, usually if I make one up for myself, I end up saying no to all the stuff that I should be eating due to the cost of those foods. Ever notice the junk you should not be eating is what is affordable? The price of fruit and vegetables around here is ridiculous.

I hear at work all the time how the gals there are turning to things like appetite suppresants in order to lose weight. They’re figuring that the pills will help them lose the weight without them having to change what they’re eating. Well, sorry girls, but if you’re still eating cheeseburgers and pizza, you’re still going to stay fat. It just doesn’t work that way. You have to change what you’re eating as well as how much you’re eating.

And counting calories really doesn’t work. Why not? Because I can find foods that have only a few calories but they’re not good for me and so it doesn’t matter. I still end up getting fat off them because they’re not good foods, they’re empty calories. So yeah, if you’re planning your meals around your calorie intake, trust me, although it’s a good idea to count your calories, it really doesn’t help much. At least not in my experience.

A Bit of Shopping

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Friday was pay day. I paid my rent and then after work, I had a shopping trip. Most of my shopping was for food – lunch items to take to work over the next two weeks and cat food for my precious kitty. Then I did a bit of splurging and bought a couple of other items. I actually spent the money and bought a pair of pants – which you can see here and a top which you can see here. I also bought the requisite new socks and underwear. LOL

I also managed to acquire a new purse for myself. I found a wallet I liked, but decided to wait until next pay day to get that.Carrera slot cars might have been nice, but nah. I was more in the market for “girly” stuff like clothes and purses. LOL Next time I’m going to look for another pair of pants or shorts and perhaps even pick up another top or two. I’ll see. )

Not Really

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

So I was moderating comments over at Basically Geeky when I ran across a few obvious spam comments that made me laugh. These are obviously spam when you look at the “name” of the person leaving it, as well as their URL. They all say that they’re going to grab my feed from that website because they like what I have to say there.

Sure, and that’s why I see a lot of URLs that lead to things such as cell phones, Mac memory, and various medications that I doubt are legally able to be sold since the sites they usually lead to show them being sold without prescriptions. Yeah, so you’re going to tell me these are legit comments? Not really. )

This is why I make sure to use Akismet & Bad Behavior, although I’m thinking I don’t have Bad Behavior on this blog anymore. But I use them to try and keep the spam comments that inevitably pop up at bay as much as possible. I also am using the Disqus comment system, though as of late I haven’t been getting any comments on my blog. Oh well. I’m not that worried about comments to be honest.

But I would love to know why it is you spammers think your comments are going to be allowed to go through to these posts. Honestly, no one in their right mind allows them through. Be serious guys.
