Time to Get Certified

Monday, March 30th, 2009

People at work are going on and on about how they feel they need to get back to school. A lot of them are wondering what they should go for. Should they go for full degrees or should they go for certifications? I asked them what they’re looking at doing and most of them don’t know. As for me, I know what I’d like to do, and I’m working slowly towards getting certifications in those areas. But I was checking out some online options for education the other day and found some interesting stats regarding CAPM certificate holders.

Did you know that a project manager in the computer and information systems field makes a wage of approximately $108,070 annually? I sure didn’t! Employment rates, not sure for what year but sometime in the last 3 years, is 64,000 employees working that type of job. They project that 14,000 more project managers in this field will be needed between 2006 and 2016? That might not seem like a lot, but it’s enough to make one or two small towns worth of employees! That’s a big chunk when you look at it that way!

Other areas are booming as well. And it looks like Saint Joseph’s University has everything a person would need to get started towards getting the certification, including exam prep. I’m definitely going to be looking into this particular establishment for learning when I’m ready to get certified. I might want to be a web designer, but frankly, I’d be happy to be a project manager as well. )

I’m Sick

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Thanks to a coworker who could not be convinced, no matter what, to stay home from work while he was sick, I am now home sick and hoping I do not lose my job. I would have stayed at work today as I really needed to, but frankly I didn’t think it was fair for them to pay me for being in the bathroom all night long. I mean it’s not as if I had adult diapers to wear while I stayed at my desk. My boss wasn’t particularly happy since she’s sick too, but you know what? She could have called in too.

Power Outage?

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Ok, one of the things I have not yet figured out is if Alorica has anything to keep us running in case of a power outage. Most call centers have some sort of back up generator that keeps everything running for a period of time after the power goes out. But I haven’t seen whether or not there’s anything like that at Alorica. At the very least, even if we lose power and can’t keep taking calls, I hope they have emergency lights! I wouldn’t want to sit in the call center with no lights and no way to keep working! If I can’t work, I at least want to be able to read my book or something!

Spring/Summer is a big time for thunderstorms in my area and with thunderstorms come power outages. This should be fairly interesting, especially since last year, we had a few tornado scares and a couple of hurricane-force winds come through this area. o.O I hope none of that happens this year, as I’m quite tired of those things even though they don’t come up very often.

They Can Haz TV?

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

You might think I’m crazy, but frankly, my best friend and her mom are in the market for a new TV. Now the biggest thing about them being in the market for a new TV is that the tv stand they currently have is quite old. In fact, it’s so old, it’s leaning to one side, but they still won’t give it up. I say it isn’t safe, but more importantly, I don’t think they’re accounting for the size of TVs now. I really don’t. They’re thinking of a 27 inch TV. Ok, that’s great, but an older 19 inch barely fit in there and they weren’t 27 inches wide. So how they expect to get a 27 inch TV in there, I have no idea. But it’d be nice if they could get a new TV since frankly, this one has to warm up for an hour or more before everything stops being green. LOL

I have a smaller TV at my place but that TV wouldn’t work for them as it’s too small. You need to be able to see it across a room and on mine, you wouldn’t be able to. ) I just hope they find a good TV at a decent price. Now that BFL’s dad is gone, money is going to be really really tight for them. (

Mini “Reester” Bunnies

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Ok, so my BFL’s mom bought us some Easter candy yesterday and what she got for me was Reese’s Mini Reester Bunnies candies. I love peanut butter cups, and so this was her way of getting them for me in Easter candy form. LOL They’re pretty good, although if one is not careful, they could end up needing diet pills just to help them get rid of the pounds packed on by these yummy little treats! )

Over the past couple of weeks, life has been just crappy. BFL’s dad passed away 4 days before her birthday. We’ve got a cake that we still haven’t cut into. The memorial service was this past Sunday and we all sat there and cried, then sat there and laughed because the pastor mentioned Dad’s favorite “groaner” jokes. ) Yep, that was Dad! LOL In any case, I’m hoping to get back into the swing of blogging regularly again. It’s just been difficult with all that’s gone on over the past few days.
