Well, I Have A Name

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Well, I have a name and I set up the sub domain for my design site, but I haven’t done the rest of it, such as getting it ready. I’m not sure how I want to do it. I don’t really want to run it through WordPress, although it’s tempting. LOL But I’ve tried running sites like that through WordPress and I just wasn’t all that fond of the way it worked out. But lately, I don’t know what is wrong with me, or maybe it’s what’s wrong with FireFox3, but I can’t seem to get my coding to work right unless I code it as a WP theme. LOL

I had a new design for Cherry Ice Graphics and I never put it up because it refuses to work the way it’s supposed to. I can’t get the background color of one of the div layers to show up, and it’s annoying the crap out of me. LOL So I gave up on it and I’m just going to leave it as is. I’ll probably be taking Cherry Ice down again anyways because frankly, I’m not so into that one anymore. Or I might leave it up so the web sets that are there can be downloaded and used, but I’m going to just stop making them. I’m not sure yet. I’ll probably pull the WordPress Themes from there though and put them on my Design Site. At least 2 of them would be “freebies” and the other one I might charge for but I’m not sure yet.

Well, I suppose I’d better get going. I’m going to read the rest of my book and then I’m going to work on Gothic Peach Designs until my friends come home or come to get me.

Thinking

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I’m thinking of opening a design site. My problem is not so much what to put on it, but what to call it. I’ve had Cherry Ice Graphics for a while, but frankly, I’m not so into that anymore, and I’d like to have a better name for a design site than Cherry Ice. Right now I just want to sub domain it off one of my domains, but I’m not sure which one. It would probably be “X Designs” the X being the domain. For example Charity Lynn Designs, Gothic Peach Designs, Bloody Kisses Designs. It’s just which one of those to use. Truthfully I like the sound of Gothic Peach Designs or Bloody Kisses Designs a lot better than Charity Lynn Designs. So I suppose it’ll be either on Bloody Kisses or Gothic Peach. Now I just have to get off my butt and decide which, plus I have to create a layout and make up the pages and whatnot. So this should be fairly interesting.

LOL, I just posed the question on my Twitter. Let’s see if anyone responds. )

How It’s Made?

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I’m sitting here watching “How It’s Made” on Discovery and laughing my butt off. They said it takes 90 minutes to build a computer and that the factory they were in builds 300 computers a day. Let me think here. I used to work for Gateway. We used to produce over 100 computers in a shift PER CELL. There were at least 10 production cells on my shift, so that’s over 1000 computers for ONE SHIFT per day.

I can put the processor, heat sink, and memory on the motherboard in about 5 minutes. I can screw the power supply, motherboard, and hard drive into the case in another 5 minutes. I can put the floppy drive (if installed) and CD-Rom drive in, plus cable it in another 5 minutes. Peripheral cards take about 5 minutes total. I think the part that takes longest is installing Windows! But oh well. I know I can build the system in less than 90 minutes, but hey. Maybe these guys are including installation of Windows, drivers, etc. That’s probably what takes the longest.

Although they had how they made sheets of glass on the same show and that was pretty interesting. )

Wake Up Iowa!

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I love this - back February when I did my taxes, I found out I’d have to pay $317 to the state. Ok, fine. Then I find out that I need a payment voucher to send in with my payment or my payment won’t be accepted. Problem is, I don’t have one. So I called the number I was given for the Iowa State Treasury or whatever it is, and they told me to wait until May, that they’d send a notification that my tax bill had not been paid and would include a payment voucher. I didn’t care much for that option as they’d be adding a penalty and interest because it hadn’t yet been paid.

Well, I never got that notice and I called again. I informed them that I needed payment vouchers and that I need to make a payment arrangement as I am not able to pay all at once. They said they’d be sending me a notice with a payment voucher that would have a different number I needed to call in order to make the arrangement.

Never got that notice either. So today I get a notice dated for August 21, 2008 saying I have until August 31, 2008 to pay $350 or else they will proceed with collections. Then I read that I have to provide something for “security” if I make a payment arrangement. Um, I don’t HAVE anything, and honestly, I can’t afford to even make payments on the tax bill, but I’ll work something out to make those payments. But I don’t own anything. They want property or a vehicle for security and I have neither.

So now I have to call them tomorrow and see what I can do because there is no way I am going to be able to get them $350 by August 31, 2008, nor am I going to be able to get them that much money all at once. Just isn’t going to happen. Frankly, I’m tempted to let it go to a collection agency - they’re easier to work with.

What the hell?

I’m sorry but I think it’s BS that a nine year old was told he can’t pitch because he’s too good. And that his team is to be disbanded because he pitched anyways. They’re saying it’s because his fastball is too fast and that the beginners might get scared and parents are scared for safety.

First off, you sign a damn paper that says you KNOW that your kid might get hurt playing baseball. Second, last I checked Little League was based on AGE GROUPS and so putting the kid with an older age group isn’t exactly going to help!

Way to go to that league for now making it so that people who have talent are to be stifled because of it.
